Masterlist

So the chickens are organizing, Mrs. Tweedy, and I totes need to get in line. I started writing almost one year ago, and there are 50+ fics here! Damn. I have created two versions of my Masterlist, b/c sometimes I think of things one way, and sometimes I think of them another way. The first list is a chronological list of where fics fit in TW canon. The second is arranged by POV character. I’ve also designated ratings, word count, fests, recs and date of first posting. Drabbles and AUs get their own section. I think that covers it! (For now. I may do a genre listing at some point, b/c sometimes you want action, sometimes you want funny, etc.) Also, I made vids, but they've been taken down from various places or what have you -- will re-organize and edit this puppy when I get it figured out.

Dudes, this is a post about shoveling. Just shoveling. With a hint of cinnamon buns at the end. How much do I hate shoveling? Quite a bit! How much do I want to smite people w/ no shoveling etiquette? Loads! LOADS!!!! At any rate, three hours of shoveling freed our car from the hellish grasp of the Snowpocalypse. You, too, can experience the wonder of a good shoveling job -- but w/ none of the burn in the muscles. What I really need is an angel to put me back together again now that my time in hell is finished. But instead, I get to experience more Snowpocalypse, b/c the doggies totes need to be fed and walked in a few minutes. Argh!!!!

Okay. You know when it'd be great to have a guy like Dean Winchester around? No, the other time, peeps. Minds out of the gutter and onto the snow-covered roads, y'all. There are these idiots down the road trying to get their car out of the parking spot. This cannot be accomplished by just going back and forth over shitloads of snow. You have to move the snow behind the car, so, you know, there's a place for it to go. You don't want to keep spinning your wheels and revving your engine, creating all this ice and a mess on the road and destroying your engine and wheels and blocking NICE PEOPLE OUT WALKING THEIR DOGGIES FROM GETTING IN WHERE IT'S WARM! Dean Winchester could tell you that! And help you get your car out safe and sound, yo!

Times when it would be helpful to have a brother like Sam Winchester living across the motel room aisle from me: when the snow is so high, I have to sit on the snow bank and roll myself over to get to the road. Yeah. The snow is still coming down, but for your amusement value, I offer up some pics from 4:15 this morning and then 8:15 this morning. The 4:15 is b/c one little doggy decided that she just had to go out regardless of the "life-threatening" conditions on the road. Dudes, that's what the weather peeps said! Did not stop some people this morning. In the 8:15 walk we passed three dudes shoveling out. But they clearly had a dead body in the trunk and had to get out to dispose of it.

I know that most everyone on my flist is also on amand_r's flist, too. So you've probably already seen her bits of pure brilliance for the help_haiti auction. If you haven't, hightail it to her LJ and be prepared to be seriously amused. I already posted about her first two "We held gold dust in our hands" stories. Now there is another one, Quality Time, and I love it like burning. It's Ianto, being a dad and being Torchwood at the same time, and it's touching, funny, true and left me with a ridiculous smile on my face. Her other two are set in the universe of the show, and are Jack/Ianto and awesomely fun and funny. Nobody does humor like amand_r! I really, really enjoyed these: High Water Mark (labeled as sassy fluff) and Boxed-In (labeled as altered state Ianto and Jack).

And I'm very thankful for them b/c I feel a massive sense of ennui for my own writing projects. I have like six stories I want to finish. I need to concentrate on them and get them done. I just feel like the fire has left me. But I have received some writerly advice and I am going to soldier on and eventually stuff won't be garbage anymore. Sorry if I have been a bit space-cadet lately. I am looking for my mojo!

And finally! Let's talk Cop Rock. Holy crap. For the sake of argument, let's say I had a VHS tape in 1990 and recorded the pilot of Cop Rock back then and watched it again last night. For starters, no amount of rum was going to make this look good. Dudes, Randy Newman played the theme song, in a studio, with the cast sitting around, grinning at him. Those were the credits. I don't know why, but I thought this show was supposed to be a comedy. It totes wasn't. It was like an episode of Southland with random songs inserted. But none of the songs took place in the men's room! And they spent so much time there! I'm all for realism, but talking about your impending visit to the urologist does not make for spell-binding TV. Then, folks, the old dude who's married to the young hot female cop sang a solo about being an old dude married to the young hot female cop. She looks about 12. He looks about 70. And his song was totally recycled when Randy Newman wrote the music for Toy Story 2's "When She Loved Me." There was a sub-plot about the mayor, whose hairdo added six inches to her height, taking bribes and singing about it; and another featuring a crack whore selling her baby for $200. That's it. Just $200. I know it's 1990, but she could have totally got more. And don't even get me started on the gospel number.

So, yeah, that's what's going down! How are you?

So the help_haiti auction has given us some great new fics lately, and I want to highlight these two new scenes from amand_r's We held gold dust in our hands. It's (Un)complicated takes place many years after the end of the story and features Ianto, Jack, Lisa and their two kids. They come in batches takes place between TKKS and OOT on the Torchwood timeline and features Jack, Ianto and Lisa making pancakes. In fact, breakfast is a featured meal in both of these stories. The shared meals really highlight the nature of their family unit. In "(Un)complicated," everything is chaotic and happy, and relaxed in the way families relax around each other after several years of doing just that. In "Batches," Ianto and Lisa are trying to do something nice for Jack, but they're at a point in their relationship where they don't know everything about each other and the breakfast highlights that to Jack. In each story, though, very real affection shines through. You will be forgiven for reading these with big goofy grins on your face!

Peeps!!!!! Crue wrote me an awesome story in the help_haiti Lightning Round, and I have to point you to it!!! You know how much I love his "Pizza Mouth," yes? I asked for the morning after. And it's so perfect! Humorous (the cameo by the team is brilliant!) and affectionate and forthright. The dialogue is natural and funny, and Jack's thoughts offer insight into his past that is both moving and spot-on. Plus, come on, pissing! Yay. :D This fic clearly has everything.

Also, I am at heart a hopeless romantic, as you probably know. I really like how Crue writes the romance in this. Check it out: Toast Crumbs.

Sorry to flood you with posts, but I just have to rec electro_club's story for the twsecretsanta exchange. This is a beautiful, haunting moment between Rhiannon and Jack post-CoE. It is clearly grounded in the aftermath of the horrific worldwide events of CoE, but at the same time, it is incredibly intimate. Rhiannon's grief, anger, sadness, disbelief at what happened -- they're all fully realized. My absolute favorite bit about this is that it explores the bond between brother and sister, and what Rhiannon felt for Ianto and still feels for him. It's breath-taking. Link here.

So excited to report that The Gulls is up! paragraphs wrote it for reel_torchwood and I have to say, I like this version better than "The Birds" (the movie it's based on). I couldn't really believe those birds, but I can believe these birds. Their menace is apparent from the very beginning and they don't let up. This is a really good example of writing suspense and OC's. And of course, there's an added layer of poignancy, as this stars Ianto during his employment at Torchwood One, and Jack after the events of CoE. You'll recognize Ianto as being just a bit younger, a bit more naive and immature, but still a stubborn lying liar who lies.

Go read for action, romance, and some terrifically bloody birds! Boy, do I love the gore!

Hey, peeps! The holiday season has really crept up on me this year. I don't know why. Yes I do, my dog Piper was sick and it was a huge emotional and financial drain (but she's all better now! yay!) and I hate the Christmases we don't get my brother. He's with his family at his in-laws and I wish he was here. But. This is my favorite time of year. And I want to spread some holiday joy, dammit. So I've got lots of links/cuts here. :)

First, for everyone who's just checking to get a dose of doctor on nurse action, I'm including two snippets here. Still planning to have it up before 2010, but later in the week than I thought. Hey, peeps! So alba17 wrote Jack/Mitchell, a crossover between TW and Being Human. It's a crossover that makes sense! Whoot! Here's Jack, a hopeless immortal, and Mitchell, an unfortunate vampire, and they have an understanding. Of sorts. There's sex (of course these two would have sex!) and it's hot. There's also some lovely imagery, and History. Jack is real, and broken, and Mitchell is himself, understanding and sexy. (Yes. I kind of have a thing for Mitchell.) Go read: The Road Less Lonely.
